Electrician in The Heights
Rewiring, panel upgrades and repairs for Heights bungalows and the new homes built beside them.

Electrical work in The Heights
The Heights is one of Houston's oldest neighborhoods, and many of its bungalows and Victorian homes date from the early 1900s. Some still have sections of original knob-and-tube wiring, cloth-covered cable, fuse boxes or panels added decades ago.
Working in these homes takes more care than in a newer house. Walls are often shiplap under the drywall, the houses sit on pier-and-beam foundations, and parts of the neighborhood are historic districts. We plan the cable routes through the attic and the crawl space to keep openings in the walls to a minimum.
What we see most in Heights homes
Knob-and-tube wiring
Original wiring with no ground, sometimes buried under insulation, which it was never designed for.
Mixed generations of wiring
Old and new cable joined during past remodels, with splices outside of boxes.
Too few circuits
A whole house on a handful of circuits, with window units and kitchens sharing them.
Old panels and fuse boxes
Equipment that is past its service life or has no room to add circuits.

Frequently asked questions
Is knob-and-tube wiring dangerous?
It has no ground, its insulation becomes brittle with age, and it was not designed for today's loads or to be covered by insulation. It should be inspected, and in most cases replaced.
Can you rewire a bungalow without tearing out the walls?
Usually, yes. Most cable is run through the attic and the crawl space. Some small openings are needed, and we tell you where before starting.
Does rewiring affect a home in a historic district?
Electrical work inside the house generally does not change its exterior. Visible exterior changes, such as moving the meter or the service mast, may need review. We check before planning that work.
