An electrician on a lift installs LED high-bay lights in a Houston warehouse

What this service covers

Commercial lighting work includes replacing fluorescent and older fixtures with LED, adding or relocating fixtures for a new layout, installing exterior and parking-area lighting, and installing and repairing exit signs and emergency lights.

LED fixtures use less electricity than the fluorescent and metal-halide fixtures they replace, and last longer, which also cuts the cost of maintenance on high ceilings.

Signs it is time

  • Fixtures flicker, hum or take time to turn on.
  • You replace lamps and ballasts often.
  • Work areas, aisles or the sales floor are unevenly lit.
  • The parking area or the entrance is dark at night.
  • Exit signs or emergency lights do not light when tested.
  • You changed the layout and the lights no longer match it.

How the work goes

  1. Walk-through

We count and identify the existing fixtures and note how each area is used.

  2. Proposal

You get fixture options and a written price for the installation.

  3. Permit when required

We file the permit for new circuits and for work that changes the lighting layout.

  4. Installation

Work is done by area, outside business hours when needed, so the space stays usable.

  5. Test

We test controls, timers, photocells and emergency lights before we leave.

How long it takes

A small office or shop is typically retrofitted in a day or two. Larger spaces are done in sections on a schedule we agree with you.

Permits and inspections

Replacing a fixture with a similar one is usually maintenance. New lighting circuits, new layouts and exterior lighting generally need a permit. We tell you which applies.

What affects the price

Lighting is priced by fixture count and conditions on site:

  • The number and type of fixtures.
  • Ceiling height and whether a lift is needed.
  • Retrofit of existing fixtures versus full replacement.
  • Controls: dimming, occupancy sensors, timers and photocells.
  • After-hours scheduling.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to retrofit or replace fixtures?

A retrofit keeps the fixture body and replaces the lamps and ballast with LED components; it costs less up front. Replacement costs more and gives a new fixture with a full warranty. We price both when both are possible.

Do you service exit signs and emergency lights?

Yes. We replace batteries and units and install new ones where they are required.

Can you install parking-lot and exterior lighting?

Yes, including wall packs, pole fixtures, photocells and timers.

Can you work without closing my business?

In most cases. We work by section or after hours so the space stays open.
